Earlier this year, passports in hand, six anxious and excited BAFTX Junior Achiever Scholarship 2016 recipients headed off to Houston’s George Bush International Airport for the flight to London, England. Their scholarship award is a two week study abroad program. The students were Rebecca Zamora sponsored by CBRE, Maria Rodriguez sponsored by Turner & Townsend Inc., Gabriela Moncada and Leslie Vergara sponsored by Enterprise Products Partners LP and Jade Garza and by Lizi Xiong, sponsored by TD Securities.

Their base during their stay was ACS International School, Cobham. Their daily itinerary included visits to many of London's highlights, including the Tower of London and the Houses of Parliament. Also they were in London for the BREXIT vote and they received a firsthand lesson in UK politics! Their visit also took them to the Globe Theatre, Stonehenge, and to the city of Brighton where they managed a dip in a very cold English Channel!!

The feedback back received from the scholarship recipients at the end of this trip is always “amazing!“, “life changing!”, “unbelievable!” Students tell us that the program expands their horizons, gives them a thirst for travel and makes them more open-minded, independent and confident. The cultural and academic exposure that BAFTX scholarship winners receive from the Junior Achiever trip to the UK is far beyond anything they expect.

2016 is a milestone year for the British American Foundation of Texas (BAFTX); it is our 10th anniversary. During those 10 years we have helped 408 academically gifted, yet financially challenged students continue their education and find the path to their future. The BAFTX Board would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors who have supported BAFTX over the last 10 years and look forward to their continued support of the scholarship program over the next 10 years.

We could not do it without you.
