The Sam Houston Race Park will be the place to be on April 16 as the British-American Business Council Houston hosts it's annual Royal Ascot Day. It's a great time to shake off the duldroms of winter and celebrate the arrival of spring. The event wiil kick off with a champagne reception celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday folloerf by dinner buffet and live horse and "cute doggie" racing. The evening winds up with a Parmalee concert.

Ladies in their spring frocks and hats will vie for the Best Ladies Hat award and the great prize that goes with. Men will have their own contest to be pronouced the Best Dressed Gent.  This year we have celebrity judges to make the awards and give out the prizes, Joanne King Herring and Ernie Manouse.

Julia Roberts played Joanne Herring in the movie “Charlie Wilson’s War”, but the real-life Texan is far more interesting than any movie could capture.   The international socialite, global political activist and former Texas television anchor, Joanne King Herring is known for her improbable fight with the Mujahedeen against the former Soviet Union as well has her philanthropic endeavours in the region.

Ernie Manouse, a native of Binghamton, NY and a graduate of Loyola University Chicago, launched his broadcasting career with NBC News before producing programs at Chicago radio station WLS-AM. In 1996, Ernie joined HoustonPBS, and as an anchor and producer, he has garnered three Emmy Awards, five KATIE Awards, a Houston Press Club Lone Star Award, "viewer's choice" recognition from multiple local and regional publications, and the title of "Ultimate Interviewer" from the Houston ChronicleAnd, recently, Manouse wrapped production on the fiinal season of the widely successful Downton Abbey inspired talk show Manor of Speaking.

BABC Member British Airlines is a long time supporter of the event and will be giving away (2) World Traveller Plus tickets from North America to London, round trip.  All in all, it's a great afternoon and evening to connect to the British American business community. Be sure to get your tickets to this popular event.
