Houston Methodist announced March 30 its Methodist Research Institute received a $21 million commitment from the Jerold B. Katz Foundation to support the commercialization of life science research and to form a new academy within the research hospital.

The Jerold B. Katz Academy of Translational Research will endow eight investigators. Their focus will be on taking health care research out of the lab and bringing it to the patient. Part of the money will also go to an infrastructure fund to keep Houston Methodist's laboratories up to date, according to a statement.
