Bob Glover, president of recruitment firm Competentia’s North America operations, said the flooding that has devastated communities across the US state was “almost incomprehensible”.

And, the Paisley born businessman, said almost “everyone” has been affected by the natural disaster in one way or another.

But he and others have been buoyed by the sight of friends and families coming together to help each other through the struggle.

Mr Glover said : “The one thing about Houston that I’ve experienced is that every neighbour is really helping each other out.

“You cannot underestimate the resolve of Houstonians’ both native and transplanted.

“Seeing neighbours helping out neighbours is really encouraging.”

He added: “Where I live in town we’ve been extremely lucky but there’s a lot of people in the city that are lot worse off.
