The Reading West MP reached out across the Atlantic when he spoke at a British American Business roadshow.

The event last Tuesday, attended by Alok Sharma, was held at the office of Deloitte LLP in Abbey Street and was a response to the launch of the free trade negotiations between the United States and the European Union, known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

The aim was to highlight to companies across the UK the ways they can benefit from a successful trade deal agreement between the US and EU, which is expected to lead to substantial economic growth for these major economies.

When concluded, the deal will cover about half of global output, almost 30 per cent of world merchandise trade and 20 per cent of global foreign direct investment.
