The much anticipated rugby match last Saturday, 7 June, between the USA Eagles and Scotland ended in a roar from the Scottish Lion Rampant for a 6-24 win for Scotland.

Leading up to the match was a great weekend of reunions of local rugby clubs, the Lost Afternoon Rugby Luncheon and various charity events hosted by USA Rugby.

Doddie WeirBABC and it's members were well represented at the Lost Afternoon Rugby Luncheon Friday. The Lost Afternoon is the brainchild of BABC member Malcolm Douglas. It brings in the natural social aspect of rugby to raise money for youth Rugby in Texas. The event has been so successful here that other cities are starting to copy the format which can only be good for rugby.

Former Scottish national player Doddie Wier was in rare form in his signature tartan suit (pictured lft) as the keynote speaker for the event, though it was more a stand up comedy routine than keynote, which suited me just fine. Irish rugby union pundit and MC for the luncheon, George Hook, was, well, George Hook. George interviewed several USA and Scottish players. But the highlight was former Scotland captain Kelly Brown's rendition of the beautiful song Caledonia. View here

BBVA Compass Stadium was awash in tartan for the match on Saturday.  The Scots represented well. USA supporters were right there with them in red white and blue face paint and USA jerseys. Some supporters just couldn't choose and wore both colors like these fellas.

This writer is already looking forward to next year's match. Who will it be? Your guess is as good as mine. But be assured as soon as I know, you 'll know.
