Three Texas universities are teaming up to oversee the Ocean Energy Safety Institute, a center that will explore the best safety practices for offshore operations.

With $5 million in funding and a five-year agreement, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston is partnering with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station's Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center to manage the institute. Funding came from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, or BSEE.
