THE GILBERT AND SULLIVAN SOCIETY OF HOUSTON PRESENTS

MR. ALISTAIR DONKIN A FORMER MEMBER OF THE D’OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

IN THE SORCERER

What is THE SORCERER?  It is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s lesser known comic operas. Why is it not known? During World War II when the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in London was travelling with its other productions, they left the set along with the costumes and even the plot book to THE SORCERER in their London warehouse and during the blitz of London they were all destroyed. It was 35 years later before it was revived so an entire generation grew up not knowing about THE SORCERER.

It is actually one of the jewels in the Gilbert and Sullivan crown....sparkling dialogue from Gilbert, and beautiful tunes from Sullivan. This is your opportunity to catch it. The Society performs this every 10 years so we would not want you to miss it. It is being performed at Cullen Theater in the Wortham Center July 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 th.  Call 281-724-8363 for tickets.
