Please note a new event on the calendar. BABC Houston has become a Global Partner with NOF Energy. As the kickoff to BABC's new Global Partner status, BABC Members are invited to attend NOF Energy's Houston Network launch on 17th June at the Hilton Houston Post Oak.  The launch will include a guest presentation by Aker Solutions and will include networking in the desktop exhibition area. 


This week marks the annual BABC Transatlantic Business Conference. I will be in Atlanta for the event from Tuesday through Friday. I will have limited access to e-mail and phone. If you have a need, I will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Apache names new female board member
Annell BayApache Corp. (NYSE: APA) has appointed Annell Bay to its board of directors. Bay recently retired from Houston-based Marathon Oil Corp. (NYSE: MRO), where she was vice president of global exploration for six years. She also has served as vice president of Americas exploration for Shell Exploration and Production Co. and as vice president of worldwide exploration at Kerr McGee Oil and Gas Corp., among other positions with energy companies. North Sea Tax Change to End Drillers' 20-Year Tax Holiday
LONDON, May 13 (Reuters) - A planned change in the way Britain taxes North Sea drillers exposes the loophole in a system that allowed an industry with annual revenues of 2 billion pounds to pay almost no corporation tax for two decades, prompting accusations that the UK tax authority is falling down on the job. The change, announced by Finance Minister George Osborne in March, caps the amount a UK company can deduct from profit for leasing drilling rigs from an overseas unit in the same group.... UKCS Sees Increase in Young Workers Traveling Offshore

The total number of people traveling offshore on the UK Continental Shelf in 2013 increased by 8.6 percent compared to 2012, according to statistics released Tuesday by Oil & Gas UK. The trade organization said that there was a 14.7-percent increase in workers aged between 24 and 29 going offshore. This was the largest increase of any age grouping of workers.
