Branson open to funding British America's Cup entry

Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson, an avid sailor, said Thursday he would consider funding Britain's America's Cup outfit Team Origin in the future if it finds itself without a sponsor.

"At the moment the British team have got funding, if the funding were to drop out who is to know, we may have a Virgin Red in one of the future yachting races," he told reporters in Valencia where the 33rd America's Cup is underway.

Team Origin can not take part in the 33rd America's Cup because the event defaulted to a rare head-to-head duel between US team Oracle and defending Swiss champions Alinghi after the two sides failed to agree on the rules for a conventional regatta involving several teams.
