The USA Rugby Men’s National Team, the Eagles, will host Italy at BBVA Compass Stadium (www.bbvacompassstadium.com) in Houston on Saturday, June 23, 2012, for the only international match being held in the U.S. this year. With the highly anticipated new stadium scheduled to open in May, the venue will utilize all-new ticketing platform axs Ticketing (www.axs.com) for the upcoming match and for all events moving forward.

The last time the two nations clashed was in September 2011, when Italy knocked the USA out of contention for the 2011 Rugby World Cup quarterfinals in New Zealand, defeating the Americans 27-10 in the last match of pool play match. No, I'm not a castaway! This is was just one of the many fun promos carried on at the Offshore Technology Conference last week. Notice the name on this safety company, Billy Pugh. With a good Welsh name like that (one of my family names btw), they must become members!

spent three days at the conference this year and had some great meetings with BABC members and potential new members. Many thanks the the EIC and Scottish Development International for use of their meeting facilities and access to their OTC events.

Also, a special thank you to UK Trade and Investment, the British Consulate, Global Scots and BABC Members Maxwell Drummond and UHY for invitations to their networking events.

I would like to do a photo recap of BABC members at OTC for the wesite. If you have photos of your booth, reception, golf tournament, BBQ, etc., please e-mail them to me in jpg or gif format.

Foreign policy aims highlighted in The Queen's speech to Parliament

Her Majesty The Queen set out the foreign policy areas of the Government's work in this Parliament during her speech on 9 May.

In the speech The Queen said that her government will seek the approval of the agreed financial stability mechanism within the euro area, and approval on the anticipated accession of Croatia to the EU.

She said that the Government will work to secure a secure and stable Afghanistan, to reduce the threat of nuclear proliferation, including in Iran, and to bring greater stability to the Horn of Africa.

Turning to situation in the Middle East and North Africa, she said that the Government "will support the extension of political and economic freedom in countries in transition".

The UK will assume the Presidency of the G8 in 2013. The Government plans to use the opportunity to promote international security and prosperity.

"This isn't daunting at all! General Powell, thank you for your very kind words. For a captain in the British Army to be introduced by such a world-renowned soldier and statesman is truly humbling and a little terrifying.

So it is with great humility that I accept this award. Genuinely, I don’t feel that I have done nearly enough to deserve it. But I am immensely grateful to Chairman of the Atlantic Council,. Senator Chuck Hagel, the President Fred Kempe, and the Board of the Atlantic Council for according me this great honour.

If I may, I would like to accept the award on behalf of my brother, William, our Foundation, all those on both sides of the Atlantic who work so tirelessly to support our wounded veterans. But particularly for the guys. This is their award.

It would be wrong of me to speak for these heroes, but not presumptuous of me to pay tribute to them: so many of our Servicemen and women have made the ultimate sacrifice; so many lives have been lost and so many changed forever by the wounds that they have suffered. They have paid a terrible price to keep us safe and free."

Offshore Technology Conference - Important Update

An update from Friday's e-mail.... United Airlines will be in the Reliant Center lobby just outside Hall B. BABC Member Lynn Houston will be at the United booth Monday and Wednesday, I believe.

BABC Member Roslyn Day of Kwik Kopy 124/Memorial reminded me she is available to provide emergency turn around printing should the on site facilities at the conference be inadequate for your needs. Tired of Queuing Up?

Tired of queuing up at US Customs? We may have a solution for you. Last month, Ken Harder of Dunbar Harder and Chairman of the BABC Trade and Policy committee met with the US Customs and Border Protection's Director of Passenger Services. As a result of this meeting, the British-American Business Council Houston is pleased to offer its members an opportunity to be a part of the upcoming expansion of the CBP's Global Entry programme to British citizens.

What is Global Entry?

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk, frequent travelers upon arrival in the United States. Participants may enter the United States by using automated kiosks located at select airports.

What are the qualifications?

You or your company must be a BABC member
You must be a British citizen
You must be a frequent traveler

If you are interested and would like to apply for this programme, please e-mail the BABC with your name, confirmation that you are a British citizen, and the number of times you have requested entrance to the US in the last 24 months.

BABC will be given a code by the CBP which we will forward to you so you can register online on the CBP website with your personal information. After registering on line, each person will be interviewed by CBP before the registration is complete.

BP Internal Investigation Report

BP has published its internal investigation team's report into the accident on the Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico on 20 April 2010.

The investigation found that no single factor caused the Macondo well tragedy. Rather, a sequence of failures involving a number of different parties led to the explosion and fire which killed 11 people and caused widespread pollution in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this year.

Endeavour Enters Into Agreement to Sell Cygnus Asset

Increased fees associated with certain H-1B

On Aug. 13, 2010, President Obama signed into law Public Law 111-230, which contains provisions to increase the fees associated with certain H-1B specialty occupation petitions and L-1 intracompany transferee petitions. Effective immediately, Public Law 111-230 requires the submission of an additional fee of $2,000 for certain H-1B petitions and $2,250 for certain L-1A and L-1B petitions postmarked on or after Aug. 14, 2010. The new fees will remain in effect through Sept. 30, 2014. The additional fees ONLY apply to petitioners who employ 50 or more employees in the United States with more than 50 percent of its employees in the United States in H-1B or L (including L-1A, L-1B and L-2) nonimmigrant status. Consequently, the fees imposed by Public Law 111-230 will not apply to all companies petitioning for H-1B and L-1 workers. BP today announced that, by mutual agreement with the BP board, Tony Hayward is to step down as group chief executive with effect from October 1, 2010. He will be succeeded as of that date by fellow executive director Robert Dudley.

BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg said: "The BP board is deeply saddened to lose a CEO whose success over some three years in driving the performance of the company was so widely and deservedly admired.

"The tragedy of the Macondo well explosion and subsequent environmental damage has been a watershed incident. BP remains a strong business with fine assets, excellent people and a vital role to play in meeting the world's energy needs. But it will be a different company going forward, requiring fresh leadership supported by robust governance and a very engaged board.

Endeavour Announces Approval of UK Field Development Plan
