BP Internal Investigation Report

BP has published its internal investigation team's report into the accident on the Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico on 20 April 2010.

The investigation found that no single factor caused the Macondo well tragedy. Rather, a sequence of failures involving a number of different parties led to the explosion and fire which killed 11 people and caused widespread pollution in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this year.

Endeavour Enters Into Agreement to Sell Cygnus Asset

Increased fees associated with certain H-1B

On Aug. 13, 2010, President Obama signed into law Public Law 111-230, which contains provisions to increase the fees associated with certain H-1B specialty occupation petitions and L-1 intracompany transferee petitions. Effective immediately, Public Law 111-230 requires the submission of an additional fee of $2,000 for certain H-1B petitions and $2,250 for certain L-1A and L-1B petitions postmarked on or after Aug. 14, 2010. The new fees will remain in effect through Sept. 30, 2014. The additional fees ONLY apply to petitioners who employ 50 or more employees in the United States with more than 50 percent of its employees in the United States in H-1B or L (including L-1A, L-1B and L-2) nonimmigrant status. Consequently, the fees imposed by Public Law 111-230 will not apply to all companies petitioning for H-1B and L-1 workers. BP today announced that, by mutual agreement with the BP board, Tony Hayward is to step down as group chief executive with effect from October 1, 2010. He will be succeeded as of that date by fellow executive director Robert Dudley.

BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg said: "The BP board is deeply saddened to lose a CEO whose success over some three years in driving the performance of the company was so widely and deservedly admired.

"The tragedy of the Macondo well explosion and subsequent environmental damage has been a watershed incident. BP remains a strong business with fine assets, excellent people and a vital role to play in meeting the world's energy needs. But it will be a different company going forward, requiring fresh leadership supported by robust governance and a very engaged board.

Endeavour Announces Approval of UK Field Development Plan

United Kingdom / Belgium / France (Country threat levels - 2 / 2 / 2): Heavy snowfall and frozen conditions in areas of northwest Europe are causing significant disruptions to ground and air transportation in Belgium, France and the United Kingdom on 18 December 2009. In Belgium, ice and snow accumulations on runways at Brussels International Airport (EBBR/BRU) resulted in cancellations or delays to dozens of flights. Severe traffic congestion on roadways across the country occurred during the overnight hours, but conditions improved during the morning.

In France, heavy snow prompted authorities to close some roadways and led to significant traffic jams on others. High-speed train services also experienced delays as the weather conditions forced drivers to reduce speeds. Airlines canceled approximately one-third of their scheduled flights, with significant delays reported at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport (LFPG/CDG) during the overnight hours.

In the United Kingdom, two of London's airports, Gatwick (EGKK/LGW) and Luton (EGGW/LTN), were closed due to heavy snowfall across southern and eastern England during the overnight hours. Gatwick was closed for seven hours before re-opening early on 18 December, while authorities did not indicate when Luton would re-open after all flights leaving the airport were canceled. The weather also caused significant traffic disruptions on the east coast and around London as well as widespread school closures.

Forecasters are predicting additional snowfall and icy conditions over the 19-20 December weekend and additional transportation disruptions are possible.
