A “comic romp from start to finish,” The Pirates of Penzance, or a Slave to Duty, has been one of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular and beloved operettas for over 135 years. Pirates tells the story of Frederic, a young man who is mistakenly apprenticed by his nurse maid to a band of inept pirates. Frederic, who wishes to leave his life of crime and bring the pirates to justice, is apprenticed until his twenty-first birthday. Unfortunately for Frederic, his birthday, falls on February 29. To his horror he realizes that he is bound to his masters for several more decades!

Add a very modern major-general, his bevy of beautiful daughters, and a chorus of bumbling policemen… then the story all goes hilariously wrong!

Pirates opens at the Wortham Center, Cullen Theater on July 17 with additional performances on July 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26, 2015. Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm, Sundays at 2:30pm. Tickets $33-$53 (plus service charges). Call 281-724-8363 or visit www.gilbertandsullivan.org for tickets.
