Linnet F. Deily was nominated Deputy U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and Ambassador and confirmed in that post by the U. S. Senate on May 27, 2001. In this capacity Ms. Deily served as the Chief of Mission of the USTR in Geneva and headed the U.S. delegation to the World Trade Organization (WTO) until 2005. She helped launch the Doha Round of negotiations and led the Geneva delegation in all aspects of the negotiations. 


Previously Ms. Deily served as Vice Chairman for Charles Schwab Corporation, which she joined in 1996 as President of Schwab Institutional Services for Investment Managers. In 1996 Deily was named President of the Schwab Retail Group.  Prior to joining Schwab, Ms. Deily was chairman, President and CEO of First Interstate Bank of Texas with 123 branches throughout Texas and employing more than 3,000 people. 

Lately, Chevron Corporation and Alcatel-Lucent appointed Linnet Deily to the Board of Directors of their companies. She is a past National President of the Committee of 200, an international organization of pre-eminent business women. Fortune Magazine identified her as one of "The 50 Most Powerful Women in Business" in the United States.


 Born in Dallas and raised on a farm in McKinney, Texas, Ms. Deily received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin and Master of Arts degree in International Management from the University of Texas at Dallas.
